The Swim

The swimming adventure will be a staged swim (same start/exit point daily) that will circumnavigate the island of Kauaʻi, covering ~100 miles over ~15 days in Summer 2019. Terence will swim up to 5 hours per day, closely supported by an experienced crew on a fully equipped sailing boat. GPS-tracking and real-time reports will be broadcast.

This epic Solo Swim Hawai’i will be a world-first and the publicity created will positively increase global awareness and action about our responsibilities as humans to the ocean.

We have partnered with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii (SCH), a grassroots, local nonprofit organization doing amazing things for ocean awareness and protection. SCH inspire local communities to care for their coastlines through hands-on beach cleanups, educational programs, and providing waste diversion services.

We push off on in Summer 2019 from Nāwiliwili Bay in Kauaʻi (the Garden Island). We will likely head clockwise around the island, the exact schedule dependent on real-time weather conditions.

Terence will be in the water up to 5 hours per day, swimming approx. 6-8 miles while also allowing for lots of playtime, interacting with the underwater world. The support vessel will maintain a short distance from him, while the support crew will be close on personal watercraft with the swim conducted under English Channel rules (no touching during swim, no wetsuit). The team will be on the open seas during daylight, finding protection in the dusk hours in sheltered bays.

The swim will be GPS monitored with the support crew acting as timekeepers, recording accurate logbooks and supporting photographic evidence.
